Querida Kate
Querida (Q.T.) Kate was born in Oklahoma to wandering parents. Until the age of 16 she traveled the world with her family before finally returning to the “Land of the Red Earth” to finish her education. After graduation and a few years teaching in the wilds of Texas, she returned home to marry her husband, Panhandle John, whom she had met while in college. A teacher & librarian by trade, she currently works with adult students in the Vocational Education system.Being active as a National Aerobatic Judge, Kate wasn't really looking for another hobby, but when Panhandle introduced her to Cowboy Action Shooting, she was hooked. After observing a couple of matches she decided this was far too much fun to just sit on the sidelines & watch. Wise man that he is, Panhandle recruited a couple of members from their home club, the Cherokee Strip Shootists, to show Kate the ropes. She hasn't quit grinning yet. From reloading ammo to cleaning guns, from shooting or serving as Territorial Governess, there isn't one aspect of this sport that Kate doesn't find enjoyable and satisfying. The best part by far, however, is the wonderful people she's met. The warmth & caring of cowboy shooters make her feel like she has an extended family all across this great country.
Currently Kate is shooting Ruger Bisleys and a '73 carbine
in .38 caliber along with a Stoeger 12 gauge. This past spring “The Dark
Side” called. Although she hated to give up her '97 shotgun, she's having
a blast making smoke & sparkles in Frontier Cartridge.
Born a gypsy, stay a gypsy. Kate enjoys traveling to matches in other states
whenever possible. The big event this year has been the inaugural EOT in New
Mexico but trips to Wisconsin and Missouri are also on the agenda. So if you
spy a wandering star with a cloud of smoke & a big grin below it, stop &
get a hug from Querida Kate. She's always glad to see you.
