SHOOT STRAIGHT KATE

My boyfriend Tom and I were introduced to SASS by our good friend Don Engleking (Halfbreed) of Classic Leatherworks in Florida. We had stopped by his shop to tell him about laser engraving on leather as well on gunstocks. When Halfbreed saw Tom's work his eyes lit up and said, “You need to come to our SASS shoot!”

We went to his home shoot the next weekend and set up the laser. We watched the shooters and wondered if we were going to get any work, but after they finished shooting they came....a line was formed behind the laser as we engraved..and engraved...set up lanterns for light.... and engraved!!!!

Our first big shoot was Mule Camp in 2000. At that shoot we joined SASS and Laser Guns SASS #37916 and Shoot Straight Kate SASS #37917 were born.

Tom's work became very popular and we decided to travel to the shoots from east to west coast. In our travels we have met many wonderful cowboys and cowgirls and made great friends. Even our English Bulldog, Bullie has become friends with the shooters….although he is known to do things at times that is NOT the cowboy way!!!

At these shoots I would watch everyone have so much fun and I would say to Tom... "They are having too much fun without me!" So I started to save up and get all my cowboy gear. My first SASS shoot was in New Mexico at the state shoot last year (2005). I was soooooooooo nervous! But I had such a great time I just can't stop now!

My home club is the Lake County Pistoleros located in Tavares,Florida. . I shoot 38's Ruger Vaquero's, an Uberti model 73 rifle in 38 caliber and a Coyote Cap 97 shotgun. My rig is the Kirkpatrick Leather ladie,s rig. I shoot in the Ladies Traditional class.

I like to make my Victorian outfits and shooting outfits, as I have found out it's not how good you shoot...it's how good you look shooting! Actually I find it easier to l”ook good” than to “shoot good” as I am not the best shooter.

SASS cowboys and cowgirls are the friendliest, sweetest, kindest, most honest,thoughtful and caring people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Their values and the cowboy way make them the best people to know! I love my SASS family and I am VERY proud to be a Dixie Cowgirl...YEEEEHAWWW!!!!!
