Tumbleweed
was an alias picked out by Shannon Hosey when she first started shooting CAS.
She was a gymnast, varsity and competition cheerleader, and tumbling
was one of the things she did best.
Her cowboy friends who know her best have given her the nickname “Weed”
for short. Shannon’s dad introduced his family
to CAS in the fall of 1999. That
is when some of the Iredell Regulator cowboys took the Hosey kids under their
wing and helped them learn gun safety.
At first Shannon didn’t join SASS because she was involved with
so many activities with church and school that she knew she couldn’t
do one more activity. In May of 2000, she helped out with the
SASS booth at the NRA Convention in Charlotte, and it was then that she picked
out her alias. By that time she
had been to many competitions and seeing the rest of the family enjoying themselves,
she made time to shoot. She ended
up winning many Junior Girls competitions all over the country, and come in
Ladies Overall Champion at Givhann’s Ferry ’02 and '03.
Her shooting fun is on hold now because she is attending college at
Columbia University in New York City where she is doing tumbling of a different
type. She is diving for their
dive team. No guns allowed there!!!!
Tumbleweed
enjoyed shooting with the cowboys during the day, but to her surprise she
also enjoyed wearing Victorian gowns and playing dress up at the formal events
of SASS. Her parents are Big
Jake Hosey and Sly, and her siblings are Angel Girl and Little Jake.
Her favorite cowboy friends are the ones who took the time to care
about her as a young junior, and taught her how to shoot.
At her last shoot (The Big Iron) before going away to college, there
was more than just a tear in her eye as she had to leave the range for the
last time.
